Carry Hope Naloxone Expands Access to Narcan Across Austin-Area School Police Departments

Carry Hope Naloxone (previously known as The Naloxone Project) has completed its largest distribution to date, providing a significant supply of Narcan to school-based law enforcement across Central Texas.

Led by Founder/Director Peyton Eitel, the organization began working approximately one month ago with both Austin ISD Police Department and Eanes ISD Police Department to equip their officers with life-saving overdose reversal medication. This effort represents the most Narcan Carry Hope Naloxone has distributed in a single month since its founding.

The initiative focused on ensuring that officers who are consistently present on school campuses are prepared to respond immediately in the event of an overdose. Together, these departments serve and protect a combined population of over 100,000 students and staff, making access to Narcan a critical addition to their daily operations.

Getting Narcan Directly Into the Field

Rather than relying on indirect distribution methods, Carry Hope Naloxone prioritized placing Narcan directly into the hands of officers. This approach allows for faster response times and removes barriers that can delay access during emergencies.

Officers within both departments are now equipped with Narcan as part of their standard readiness, ensuring they can act immediately when faced with a potential overdose situation.

Ongoing Support and Expansion

This initial rollout is not a one-time effort. Carry Hope Naloxone continues to supply additional Narcan to both departments to ensure long-term availability and readiness as needs evolve.

The organization’s ability to carry out this scale of distribution has been supported by partners such as Be Well Texas, along with other contributors who have helped make ongoing access to Narcan possible.
